Exchange 2010 Coming Soon

October 29th, 2009

As some tech geeks may already be aware Microsoft’s new messaging and collaboration product Exchange 2010 is coming soon. Some of you have been participating in our beta launch of Exchange 2010 and as we can judge by your feedback have really enjoyed that.

We are going to publish a series of posts to make you more familiar with this product that we plan to offer as soon as it’s released.

So I will start with one of the most exciting customer-facing feature -

Outlook Web App. Yes, this is good old Outlook Web Access on steroids. Now it has much more options available to an end-user and they are exciting!

Among top anticipated features are fully supported cross browser Premium version of Outlook Web App. Back then it was supported only on Internet Explorer browsers so that Safari/Firefox users were lacking Premium version. With this new functionality the users running Safari or Firefox should have exactly the same experience as those running Internet Explorer.

Outlook Web App is a feature rich application that appears to have been designed to narrow the gap between Outlook client and Outlook Web. New features available in Outlook Web App now include Favorites, Search Folders, ability to attach a message to a message, integration with Office Communicator (it is possible to exchange message directly from within Outlook Web App and it also includes presence and contact list), new Conversation view, integration with SMS text messages, side-by-side comparison of calendar.

The feature list provided is not complete and we will continue to highlight the features and enhancements that are exciting!

Intermedia Exchange Hosting: Security Policy change

October 26th, 2009

As far as you may know Intermedia is in the process of changing and improving the security policy. As we are providing help and support via phone, it’s very important for us to make sure the person calling really is the mister Smith who owns the account.

The only users whom Intermedia employees are authorized to provide full assistance with are account contacts. Previously, each account contact had a security question which was used to verify his/her identity; the number has increased from one to three per contact and the old set of questions was replaced with a new one. If you call techsupport you will have to answer only one of the three questions for your contact, one that was randomly chosen by the system. If you are unable to give the correct answer, techsupport will transfer you to customer service department to verify your identity.

The following articles can provide you with more information:

Intermedia Web Hosting: FreeType Library Support on Linux Hosting Plans

October 6th, 2009

On October 6th, 2009, our System Administrators updated PHP on Linux Hosting Servers to allow for FreeType library support in the GD module.

Previously, our GD module lacked the FreeType Library support. The GD module contains a number of image manipulation methods and adds support for different image formats. Based on customer requests, our System Administrators have compiled the GD module with FreeType support. The FreeType library allows for improved captcha or other human verification systems that use images to be used in website development.

To make use of FreeType, you will want to enable the GD Module from within your HostPilot. Navigate to “Web/FTP Server > Apache Server > Add-Ons > PHP > Configuration” within your HostPilot to enable and disable PHP Modules for your account.

Intermedia Web Hosting: Recent updates to the HostPilot interface for Windows 2008 accounts

October 6th, 2009

An update to our HostPilot control panel interface that happened a while ago has brought several new features for Windows 2008 accounts.

One of the most important improvement can be mentioned is the renovated “Access Permissions” section that now allows the powerfull and flexible way to control access for a different site areas, share folders contents between the site users and protect the sensitive data from unauthorized site visitors.

The complete description on how to use the new functionality can be found in the Knowledge Base article, “Managing access permissions for Windows 2008\IIS7 site“.

A couple of examples that explain how to restrict access for the site folders are covered in the article, “How do I restrict access to my Windows 2008/IIS7 site?”.
