Intermedia Exchange Hosting: 2010 KB articles

November 13th, 2009

The new Exchange release was accompanied by lots of secondary tasks – from server-side to customer-oriented – and now when 2010 is up and running we can finally recover our breath and update our Knowledge Base. Lots of articles were remastered and rewritten to include new information but for now I want to present you with the new articles that were created specifically for Exchange 2010.

What are the limitations of my Exchange 2010 account?

Here you can find the limitations for the 2010 accounts, i.e. the number of the allowed company contacts/distribution lists/domain names/public folders/etc. Please note the limits for the accounts with 50 and more mailboxes differ from those that are set smaller accounts.

Please note: the three articles mentioned below apply to 2010 Enterprise accounts only! Find more info here: and here: How do I upgrade from Business to Enterprise Exchange 2010 account?

Exchange 2010 Company Disclaimer feature

The disclaimer feature has been upgraded since 2007 so now you can modify and use the following:

  • Disclaimer text (well that’s not great news, but please note you have up to 5000 characters, spaces, HTML tags included)
  • HTML tags and in-line CSS Styles
  • User Attributes (Display Name, First Name, Department etc. These attributes can be used in personalized signatures as well
  • Behavior with messages that can’t be modified (for example if they’re encrypted)

Enterprise Exchange 2010: How do I create mailbox in the specific site location?

As you may know we have two datacenters with Exchange 2010 servers (West one and East one) and we give you a possibility to choose where to create your mailboxes. You can select the one that’s closer to you while the other one would have a copy of all mailboxes data in case something happens with your datacenter.

How do I find appropriate settings to connect to my Exchange 2010 mailbox?

Two datacenters have different settings you should use to connect, so you have to choose the correct ones for your mailbox otherwise the e-mail client won’t work. The article would help you to find out which ones would be correct for each mailbox.

I’m pretty sure more articles are to come so stay tuned.

Exchange 2010 Coming Soon

October 29th, 2009

As some tech geeks may already be aware Microsoft’s new messaging and collaboration product Exchange 2010 is coming soon. Some of you have been participating in our beta launch of Exchange 2010 and as we can judge by your feedback have really enjoyed that.

We are going to publish a series of posts to make you more familiar with this product that we plan to offer as soon as it’s released.

So I will start with one of the most exciting customer-facing feature -

Outlook Web App. Yes, this is good old Outlook Web Access on steroids. Now it has much more options available to an end-user and they are exciting!

Among top anticipated features are fully supported cross browser Premium version of Outlook Web App. Back then it was supported only on Internet Explorer browsers so that Safari/Firefox users were lacking Premium version. With this new functionality the users running Safari or Firefox should have exactly the same experience as those running Internet Explorer.

Outlook Web App is a feature rich application that appears to have been designed to narrow the gap between Outlook client and Outlook Web. New features available in Outlook Web App now include Favorites, Search Folders, ability to attach a message to a message, integration with Office Communicator (it is possible to exchange message directly from within Outlook Web App and it also includes presence and contact list), new Conversation view, integration with SMS text messages, side-by-side comparison of calendar.

The feature list provided is not complete and we will continue to highlight the features and enhancements that are exciting!

Intermedia Exchange Hosting: Security Policy change

October 26th, 2009

As far as you may know Intermedia is in the process of changing and improving the security policy. As we are providing help and support via phone, it’s very important for us to make sure the person calling really is the mister Smith who owns the account.

The only users whom Intermedia employees are authorized to provide full assistance with are account contacts. Previously, each account contact had a security question which was used to verify his/her identity; the number has increased from one to three per contact and the old set of questions was replaced with a new one. If you call techsupport you will have to answer only one of the three questions for your contact, one that was randomly chosen by the system. If you are unable to give the correct answer, techsupport will transfer you to customer service department to verify your identity.

Intermedia Exchange Hosting: 2003 to 2007 migration

October 16th, 2009

Exciting news for everyone who is still on Exchange 2003: Intermedia has changed the migration process, and changed it considerably.

BEFORE you had to pay us for the data migration and assistance or perform the migration on your own.

NOW we can migrate you to the 2007 platform for free. You have to create an 2007 account with Intermedia either by using our Intermedia website interface or by contacting our sales department (1-800-379-7729 option 2), log into your new account and request a migration from there. The following process is the best way to migrate with as little inconvenience and impact as possible.

Please take a closer look here: Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2007 Migration Procedure. The article contains detailed information about each step and would help you to understand the way migration is performed.

Intermedia Exchange Hosting: Why do I see corrupt contacts in Outlook/OWA address book?

September 7th, 2009

Sometimes you may see a corrupt email address for the Company Contact in your Outlook/OWA address book. The email address of the contact looks like pretty weird -  793a5e2b-09c5-4005-9921-b30695a28ec1@exch016.msoutlookonline.net. If you check the contact in HostPilot it will have correct email address.

So what the heck with those contacts? Check Why do I see corrupt contacts in Outlook/OWA address book? to get the answer!
