Intermedia Web Hosting: ASP.NET Framework 4.0 Now on Windows 2008 Servers

April 29th, 2010

On April 15th 2010, our System Administrators deployed ASP.NET Framework 4.0 to H7838-6 Windows 2008 Server. In the next weeks, they will deploy the same framework to our other Windows 2008 Servers. This means that Windows 2008 customers that are on the these servers will have the ability to use ASP.NET Framework 4.0 for their ASP Applications.

This new framework will not affect current applications that are live on the server. Customer can still choose to use Framework 2.0, 3.0, and 3.5. Customers can also choose to setup different application pools that can use different framework version.

Here are some more specifics regarding ASP.NET Framework 4.0 from Microsoft:

“The key words to describe what’s new in the overall ASP.NET 4.0 platform are ‘more control.’ ASP.NET 4.0 is neither a revolutionary change nor a refactoring of its existing architecture. It consists, instead, of a good number of small-scale changes that together provide developers with much more control of certain frequently used features of the existing framework.”

If you would like to make use of ASP.NET Framework 4.0 on your Windows 2008 plan, please contact Technical Support or by opening a case within your HostPilot under Technical Support > Create New Case.

Intermedia Web Hosting: Beginning Linux Debian to Linux Lenny Updates

April 23rd, 2010

Earlier this month our System Administrators moved all websites on LH7858 to a new Linux Hosting server that supports Linux Debian 5.0.4 (Lenny) which is a 64-Bit Operating System. This new server supports the following technologies:

  • Apache 2.2.9
  • PHP 5.2.6

Customers on this server were notified in advance of the change.  All plans that support MySQL will continue to have access to their MySQL Databases.

Intermedia will continue to systematically convert each server in the entire Linux Hosting Environment to this new platform. Each server and the accounts on those servers will be notified and updated. This marks the first server in our Linux Hosting Environment that has been updated over time. If you would like to confirm that your site is hosted on this server, would like to have your site moved to this new server, or have any other questions about how this might affect your account, you can contact our Technical Support Team from within your HostPilot under Technical Support > Create New Case.

These steps will help to homogenize the Linux Hosting Environment. As technologies change, we want to move forward with these changes to ensure proper security and performances are achieved by our hosting solutions. If you are curious about our Linux Hosting plans, please visit our Linux Web Hosting Plan pages.

March 31st, 2010

On Monday, March 29th, System Administrators installed ASP.NET Model-View-Controller (MVC) 1.0 on H7838-4 Windows 2008 Server.

“ASP.NET MVC 1.0 provides a new Model-View-Controller (MVC) framework on top of the existing ASP.NET 3.5 runtime. This means that developers can take advantage of the MVC design patterns to create their Web Applications which includes the ability to achieve and maintain a clear separation of concerns (the UI or view from the business and application logic and backend data), as well as facilitate test driven development (TDD).” – Read More on Microsoft.com

November 5th, 2009

Intermedia is making infrastructure changes for our Web Hosting Plans so that incoming email is received by our front-end mail filter servers, rather than the actual mail server. The purpose of this change is to ensure that mail is properly filtered and routed through our infrastructure in a manner that is secure for our customers, and safe for our environment. As spam activity increases and more advanced techniques are used by spammers, this becomes a necesary change. As a customer, you may see notifications requesting you to modify your MX records. Some customers use Spam Filtering Services, and this change may affect those customers.

What is an MX Record?

If you have questions about how this change might affect your mail services with Intermedia, please call Support or open a Support Ticket in your HostPilot under Technical Support > Create New Case. Technical Support can help you update your MX Record at any time you wish. This change will not require you to modify any settings in your email program.
